I proofread for different clients, each person is unique and has different needs and expectations. The Institute of Professional Editors Ltd (IPEd) defines proofreading in their Australian standards for editing practice as: “Proofreading is examining material after layout to correct errors in textual and visual elements” (refer to www.iped. http://iped-editors.org/About_editing/Editing_standards.aspx) Of course there’s much more to proofreading than meets the eye. The basics include things such as: grammar checks, widow and orphan word control, punctuation and page layout – but there is so much more that I do. If I can assist you or someone you know I am always happy to discuss any project, be it large or small.
