Intuition has had a strong influence on my business. For example, I rang a publisher to introduce myself and let them know about Gumhill Proofreading. When you contact someone this way it is known as a ‘cold call’. On several separate occasions I spoke with the person who owned the business. They advised they didn’t outsource their proofreading needs. After keeping in touch with them during the year and still getting the same ‘thanks, but no thanks’ answer I gave up. However, following my intuition, in the middle of the following year I decided to contact them again, out of the blue and success! Yes, they did need a proofreader for a project they had and one project followed another. They are now a loyal customer and I am made to feel very much a part of their team.
